As an aunt of two nieces and two nephews and a volunteer library assistant, I've gone through MANY craft books, trying to find a good one since the girls especially seem to love creating their own toys.
This series, and the other books in it, are WELL WORTH the money and shipping time, and what were what originally got me started shopping on Amazon.com.
It's got plenty of illustrations and photos, the kids in it look like they genuinely enjoy the activities instead of just posing for the cameras, and the materials for most, if not all of them are cheap and easy to find for the most part at your local Wal-Mart, K-mart or craft shops.
I recommend the entire series for busybody moms, dads, grandparents, godparents, aunts and uncles everywhere, as crafts and building together area GREAT way to bond with your little ones, and I have yet to see an unsafe craft in the books, so no worry about hazards either. Unless of course.. your kid has a taste for glue. XP

I work at a shelter for domestic violence victims including children. Many of these children have never had the opportunity to do crafts with a parent figure or go to school. Every time (and I mean every time), there was a craft class scheduled and we used something from this book in conjuction with a school lesson, the kids had a great time and learned something. They had, for the first time, something to give to their mothers for Christmas or Mother's Day.

The book is very easy to follow and I love the way it is divided up. If children who are learning challenged can do this, anyone can.

I have bought Family Fun magazine for years just for their craft section. They have great crafts for all ages, many made of inexpensive and easily available materials. I have not only used the crafts with my grandkids but also use them with my Sunday School class, with an age range of 4-13 years old. Many of their crafts make easy and attractive gifts for children to give at Christmas, etc., and they have a collection of things to make for school parties. I highly recommend this book.

This is one great book. The spiral, hard-back cover is easy to handle. The ideas are realistic. I can do most of these crafts from things that are in my cabinets. It is great for home schooling. The kids were very excited and proud of the book. The only thing we didn't like was that the first time we opened the book it fell apart. We want to keep the book because we like all the projects. It should hold up to children opening the book up.

this book only has about 20 crafts and almost all oif them use thread or pipe cleaners. They should have all of the supplies in the book but they make you go to the store and buy it. The crafts are not interesting and very boring. I suggest you don't buy this book.

Found this in the library. As a retired school teacher it would have been a fantastic resource for the classroom. I am ordering it for my two daughters who teach school, for one who doesn't but loves to do projects with my grandson, and recommending it to all my teacher and young mother friends. Family Fun really does have one of the best databases of innovative and fun crafts for kids around. As an arts director at a girl scout camp, I read a lot of these books and this is one of the better ones. All the crafts in this book feature color photographs, and almost all leave lots of room for young crafters to use their own creativity (rather than blindly following instructions.) Most supplies used are things that can be cheaply procured/ that you probably have already-- lots use recycled objects(milk jugs, egg cartons) and a lot use paper, yarn and other inexpensive supplies. There are crafts for varied age and skill levels, and a lot can be adapted to differing age and skill levels.

The only downside to this book is that virtually every craft is also available on the familyfun website, but there is something to be said for having all 500 projects at the tips of your fingertips-- my niece and nephew are often inspired simply by leafing through the pages. Also, the directions in here are frequently more extensive than the ones listed online, and are better organized.
